Tragic Hero
Death, destruction, mayhem, blood, gore, anarchy, retribution, and assassination are just a few of the many features belonging to a tragedy. The main part of a tragedy, however, is the tragic hero. This hero never has a happy ending. Think of Romeo Montague, Julius Caesar, Anakin Skywalker, Macbeth, William Wallace, and the list goes on and on. Aristotle believed that the tragic hero was supposed to make the audience examine their own lives and arouse feelings of fear and pity. Take a look at Aristotle's Theory of Tragedy in this outline by clicking here. To learn even more about Aristotle's theory and his idea of a tragic here, watch the first YouTube video listed below. It shows Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader) as a typical tragic hero.
